Instructions To Students: For this Supplementary Assessment, there is only one task, with two parts. Education NSW SCIT140 Science in Our World SUPPLEMENTARY ASSESSMENT TASK DESCRIPTION: To reflect, analyse and evaluate an Investigation Report (found in Appendix 1), showing an understanding of the relevant scientific knowledge associated with the fair testing process and key science concepts. This task has two parts:
Part A: In no more than 600 words, reflect on the investigation (see Appendix 1): How does the type of mulch affect evaporation of water in soil.
Part B: In no more than 600 words, provide an understanding of the key science concept/s of the investigation provided and how these key concept/s meet societal needs.
Part A: (600 words) In your reflection of the fair test investigation (see Appendix 1), address the following scientific processes and information provided:
• Provide a hypothesis for the investigation;
• Identify all the variables associated with this fair test investigation;
• Reflect on the limitations of the method to complete a fair test investigation;
• Comment on the structure of the results to see patterns in the data and correctly present results using Excel tables and graphs
. Part B: (600 words) To show your understanding of the key concept/s underpinning the fair test question, provide:
• The background science (approx. 300 words) behind the investigation in Appendix 1 must be researched and explained. Evidence of background reading is to be provided using APA style referencing. • A discussion (approx.. 300 words) including an analysis of the results (related back to the original question(s), hypothesis and prediction) AND show relevance of the fair test question to help individuals make informed decisions about the world
