Description
this course deals with confronting events, research and images, which some students may find disturbing. However, the images and audio-visual materials are publically available, being drawn from mass media, including films and documentaries, meeting the requirements of the Australian Censor. The course draws on this visual material for instructional reasons, in service of the objective of describing and explaining the experience and sociological effects of terror, with the ultimate objective of addressing violence and terror through better-informed policy. Students may discuss any topic, presentation or approach about which they may have concerns with the unit coordinator or their instructor either before or after any seminar or tutorial. Students have the option of Special Consideration or equivalent in relation to any course content they feel may prove traumatic or exacerbate any existing condition resulting from prior trauma relating to the specifics of the course content: on approval, alternate content will be set.
