Progress report 2 preparation guide
This progress report is aimed at ensuring you have been conducting your project in a well-organized, timely and consistent manner and made significant progress since the submission of your progress report-1. It is worth 10% of your final mark for this unit.
As mentioned in the Unit guide, you are required to:
- Demonstrate project management skills that include a high level of personal autonomy and accountability and ability to work collaboratively with the supervisor/s to complete a project as planned on time and within budget.
- Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to an engineering project in order to manage problems that may occur during the implementation of a project
To evidence this, your report should demonstrate you can:
a. Apply professional engineering management skills to complete a project.
b. Evaluate information using critical and analytical thinking and judgment.
c. Create solutions to authentic (real world and ill-defined) problems.
d. Better management of time and resources to timely completion of the deliverables.
e. Take responsibility for a project and initiate meetings with relevant stakeholders.
f. Collaborate professionally with a supervisor/industry partner in order to complete an engineering project.
Report Structure
Please include the following in the progress report. Also, your report should be properly structured, formatted and should include a standard cover page with project title, student and supervisor’s name.
Progress Statement :
One result is ready (even partly) you are required to list the findings so far and also indicate what is remaining to be completed before final thesis submission. You can indicate it in the timeline by showing tasks complete during Progress report-1 to Progress report-2). (This is a brief summary of the progress towards final report writing, mentioning chapter and sections completed and remaining. This can be expressed by including a probable Table of Contents (can be included in appendix) for the Final Report)
Project Management
Include some evidence on how you have managed your project up to this stage. This may include who & how you have communicated with people related to this project, how you have collected data/information and how you have conducted relevant experiments etc.
Learning Experience
Include a short description on what new skills (for example; any software, lab experiment, operation/management skill, communication skill, etc.) you have learned and where you applied that skill in your project. You can also include the challenges you are still facing that limits your progress.
Results and Analysis
Present the experiments/simulation results you have produced/achieved until today, analyze and explain the findings as learning for the readers.
Project 3: Intent of Assessment
Must be submitted via CloudDeakin into the assignment dropbox labeled ‘Thesis’ Any extension requests should be made to your supervisor AND the unit chair. The request should be accompanied by the evidence that supports the need for your extension, as well a draft of the thesis showing the work you have done on it to date.
The major assessment task for the final year project is the final report or thesis. The intent of the assessment is for you to demonstrate that you can produce a high-quality document that accurately and succinctly details ALL the important aspects of your work. Thus the thesis is a comprehensive technical document that contains:
an introduction to the project to provide context for your research
*Note that there are several other sections required as per the format guide below
There is no fixed word count; assessors are looking for a clear and concise piece of work that accurately captures what you have achieved throughout.
