Task 1: Handling of road crash dataset and descriptive statistics

Report the following items for all police-reported crashes in Victoria that occurred at road intersections between 1 January 2011 and 31 December 2019, determine the following items:
i. Total number of crashes by each calendar year (e.g., 2011, 2012, ... , 2019)
ii. Number of crashes in different days of a week (e.g., Mon, Tue, ... , Sun)
iii. Proportions of crashes in different hours in a day (e.g., 00:00-00:59, 01:00-01:59, ... , 23:00-23:59 hours)
iv. Proportions of crashes by different levels of crash severity
v. Number and proportions of crashes by different types of crashes (hint: use DCA codes)

Present your results in tabulated or graphical form. Based on the results presented, discuss any common trends across the six items determined in this task.

Task 2: Investigation of crashes at a road intersection

Prepare a collision diagram for the crashes occurred at the intersection between the two roads (Bell St and Albert St) in Preston, VIC 3072. A Google Map view of the intersection and a satellite view are given in Figure 1 and Figure 2, respectively. Consider the crashes occurred at the intersection during the following time period only:

• Student number ending with an even number: 1 January 2006 – 31 December 2017
• Student number ending with an odd number: 1 January 2007 – 31 December 2018
