SCENARIOS 

1. You are the head chef at ANIBT CAFE and a small fire has begun in the kitchen. The  fat in the fryer has caught alight and because there was no-one in the kitchen at the  time it has had five minutes to take hold and begin spreading.  

2. As the room attendant at ANIBT HOTEL you notice a suspicious looking character  trying to open a hotel room door. It is 10.30pm and you are not sure whether he  cannot open his own door or is trying to break into someone else’s room. You wait  and observe his movements. He moves from one door to the next trying to find one  that is unlocked.  

3. You are a waiter at ANIBT BAR, while removing the rubbish from the bin a work  colleague has severely cut his leg on a piece of glass protruding from the bag. He is  bleeding badly. Your manager is not in.

Part 1 

In groups of 4 students, conduct a simulated workplace staff meeting that involves the  discussion of the 3 scenarios above and the implications on WHS.

Part 2 

Individually, you are to answer the 3 questions for each of the 3 scenarios above 

a) Develop a detailed procedure for each of the emergency scenarios. 

b) In the scope of your responsibility – that is as the person in each scenario - what  action can you take?  

c) Who and how should you report the incident to.

Part 3 

Select one of the above emergency situations above and in a simulated work environment  role play the situation with your trainer. You must demonstrate that you have sufficient skill  and knowledge to respond to the emergency situation.
