Task: Policy analysis i. Calculate your Eco-footprint using one of the following websites (or you can use another if you have a preference): https://www.footprintnetwork.org/ http://www.footprintcalculator.org/ ii. From the results, you obtain, choose one area (eg., waste, transport, water usage, energy consumption etc), that you think you should address to reduce your Eco-footprint (hint – change one of your inputs and recalculate your footprint). iii. Look for a Government policy that focusses on the area you have chosen. i. Obtain a copy of the relevant policy. ii. Based on the contents of the Policy, analyse how it will assist in achieving a reduction in the impact you have selected. For this you will need to describe the Policy and analyse it in terms of the strategic directions and other actions included in it and how they relate to your area. iii. Discuss what changes you think should be made to the Policy that would then guide the government agency responsible for its implementation that would assist you to reduce the impacts of your chosen area. You need to justify these changes. iv. Discuss the attributes (in context of ESD), of the policy in regard to whether you believe that it will contribute to the goal of ecological sustainable development. You need to justify your points.
