Assessment 1 - Online Quiz Formative Assessment

Details

The Formative Quiz will focus on content covered in:

  • tutorial weeks 1, 2, 3 & 4 and;
  • online content for weeks 1, 2, 3 & 4.

The Quiz will consist of multiple-choice questions only.

1. Define and analyse the concepts of mental health, mental illness, and mental
disorder.
2. Examine the principles that support personal recovery.
3. Apply assessment frameworks used in psychiatric/mental health care to inform
person-centred care planning.

Assessment 2 - Mental Status Examination

Details

For this assessment, you are to produce a mental status examination (MSE) and a brief
written mental health assessment. This will be based on a simulated interview available
on Moodle. There is a template on Moodle to assist you with structuring your work.
MSE
In writing your MSE, the entries must meet 4 criteria: it must be valid, appropriately
categorised, suitably clear and detailed.

Validity: Observations made must be correct, and applicable to the interview shown.

Categorisation: Your observations must not only be correct, they must also be correctly
categorised. For example, a ‘flight of ideas’ is not thought content; that observation can
only correctly be placed into thought form.

Clear and Detailed: Observations must be suitably clear and detailed. To this end,
answers must be in full sentences, and written with clear detail. Insufficient detail or
clarity will not be awarded marks.
Please ensure that you attempt all 10 fields of the MSE. Only comprehensive MSEs will
receive high marks. You must write the MSE in such a way that conveys the mental state
of the interviewee in great clarity. All markers have been briefed, and will approach this
assessment task with reasonable expectations and flexibility. Do not include references in
the MSE.

Mental Health Assessment

In addition to the MSE, you must include a written mental health assessment, including
references (this is submitted in the one document). You must determine a suitable
diagnosis for the interviewee, and identify aspects of the video that support your
diagnosis. You must identify content from the interview, and explain how it is indicative
of your selected diagnosis, supported with appropriate references.

Assessment 3 - Presentation

Details

For this assessment you are to produce a pre-recorded presentation. You are to:

  • Identify and describe a mental health issue (depression, suicide, substance
    use disorder, anorexia nervosa, etc).
  • Explain how the mental health issue relates to the Australian context
    (statistical information, demographic information, etc).
  • Explain the risk factors for the chosen mental health issue.
  • Discuss the treatments for the chosen mental health issue, and identify pros
and cons of the various treatments.
  • Provide specific discussion of how trauma interacts with the chosen mental
    health issue.
  • Summarise your key findings, and how SNUG206 has influenced your
perception of the chosen mental health issue.

Other information

Include intext references in your slides.

You do not need to include your face in the presentation, however the presentation
must be delivered with your voice.
You can include images and videos within your presentation, however the use of
audiovisual materials must complement your own presented work.
You must upload your work to YouTube as an unlisted video. No other medium is
acceptable.
Copy and paste the URL into a PDF or Word Doc, and upload this to Turnitin.
Do not include a reference list at the end of the presentation. Instead, include the
references in the file you upload to Turnitin.

Final Outcome and Learning Objectives Achieved

Through the guided process, the student successfully:

  • Completed the quiz with improved accuracy by strengthening theoretical foundations.
