Assignment Task

This assessment requires you to develop a set of PowerPoint slides about a social research article of interest, which you will critique according to the points mentioned below. Format for assessment: PowerPoint, submitted in the normal way, not presented in person. Please include up to 10 references, including the research paper itself. Allocate the following research areas to the slides, as follows: An overall description of the chosen research paper – one does not need to critique this part as it is just a descriptive overview:

1. Topic being investigated

2. Stated rationale and background for the study

3. Aims and objectives of the study

4. Overview of the research methods used, including the techniques for sampling, data collection and data analysis.

Then make a critical assessment/critique of the research approach by evaluating the processes used, pointing out if they were suitable or could have been done differently (pro’s and con’s):

1. Overall research design adopted

2. How key concepts were defined and measured

3. Sampling process employed

4. Data collection methods

5. Way the data was analysed

6. Approach to interpretation of results

7. Ethical issues identified

One can allocate the 11 components, each component to a single slide, or combine sections together on a single slide, space permitting; for example, in the first section (overall description) one could combine points 2 and 3 on a single slide, or 1 and 2 on a single slide.

Therefore, there should be a maximum of 14 slides: the first an introduction to the assessment, the second last slide a brief summary of the review and the last slide for references. The others in between should cover the 11 points noted above.

As it is a PowerPoint presentation one can chose whatever design and layout that you want. However, it is not necessary to narrate the slides or to include any other sound.
