The Nursing Code of Conduct (Principle 3) states “Understanding and acknowledging historic factors such as colonisation and its impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ health helps inform care” (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, 2022).
Colonisation has had a significant impact on social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, incorporating important cultural connections. SEWB is defined as a multidimensional concept that includes mental health, but also encompasses domains of health and wellbeing such as connection to Land/Country, culture, spirituality, ancestry, family, and community (Gee et al, 2014).

In your essay, discuss how the colonisation of Australia has impacted the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In this discussion, explore the impact on three (3) connections identified in the inner circle of the above diagram.
