Research Essay Writing Assignment:

Task: Topic: public policy research essay Major Research Essay Value:50% of overall mark in the form of one major essay of 3000 words (not including references or footnotes). OR You may choose to submit an Essay Plan, worth 10%, in order to obtain feedback before proceeding to a final essay worth 40% (the final essay will still be 3000 words). The Major Essay provides you with the independence to define a research topic of interest to you, go beyond the course through your own independent research, and produce a more in-depth analysis of your chosen topic (which needs to relate to some aspect of one of the course Themes). You will be expected to be prepared, not simply to analyse a theoretical debate critically, but to take a stance in relation to that debate, and defend that stance through appropriate use of evidence and argument supporting their chosen position. NOTE:you cannot choose a Theme on which you have already submitted a Thematic Overview. You must choose a different Theme for your major Research Essay! Literature requirements: 1. The Major Essay must engage with at least 6 texts assigned for the course, and must clearly relate to at least one of the Themes discussed in the course. 2. In addition, the Major Essay must involve a significant engagement with theoretical literature beyond that assigned for the course, with at least 12 works sourced independently.
