Select a case that you have performed in this semester or in the preceding 6 months, where the patient has carotid or peripheral artery disease. Images which show the progress of the examination and the nature of the pathology should be included with the assignment. Provide the following information and/or answer the questions below. This case report has two parts (Parts A and B)

Part A. 700 words

1. Précis of the patient history: Including the request.

2. The Examination:

• Describe the system settings and patient positioning you used which directly influenced the quality of the images.

• How did positioning of the patient and adjustment of the machine settings improve the quality of the image? Do not include a generic description of what each setting does.

3. The Images:

• Show the images which represent the course of your examination.

• Single spectral Doppler and Bmode images of each artery are sufficient if no significant pathology is present.

• Add Bmode/colour and spectral Doppler images to show the nature of significant lesions (eg. Stenosis or occlusion).

• Describe the B-Mode, Colour and Spectral Doppler appearance of the arteries in your case. Comment on the type and distribution of disease present. Which features assisted you in diagnosing the presence of disease.

• Which stenosis grade was suggested by your Spectral Doppler waveforms? Did the Spectral Doppler correlate with the B-Mode and colour appearance?

4. Other Pathology:

• Describe the sonographic appearances of any other anatomical variations or pathology seen during the examination.

5. Critique of images:

Do not list each one individually but broadly offer comments about the inadequacies and the adequacies of the images/ examination.

Part B. (800 words) With reference to the JOURNAL literature:

• Discuss the pathological origin and progression of the disease you have investigated (approx. 200 words).

• Discuss the role of ultrasound in identifying the arterial disease you have investigated and compare the criteria used in your practice to that published in journal literature.

• Discuss the implications of the pathology you have found, to the prognosis and likely treatment options for your patient.
