Background on the security industry in South Africa
The private security industry in South Africa provides guarding, monitoring, armed reaction, escorting, investigating and other security-related services to private individuals and companies in the country. The security industry of South Africa is one of the largest industries in the world, growing annually, mostly due to the ever-increasing crime rates in South Africa. As a result, more jobs are created in this industry. According to the 2018/2019 report by the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA), more than 2 million security officers are registered in South Africa and nearly 500 000 registered security officers are employed across South Africa
