Assignment Task

This task is a case study of selected services and/or systems in the building we inspected in the UQ campus, or any Commercial buildings. Each student is required to study and report on allotted services/systems in a clear and concise manner. If not picking up the UQ building, no more than one student may select the same building. Once you have decided, please email your desired building to me This will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Task

Each student will report on two items of service equipment found in the selected building. For each of the allocated items of equipment, the following information is required :

General building information

Provide details (including photos, plans, etc.) of the location and context, site size, building size, and general arrangement of either a building on campus or a commercial building (as appropriate).

General description

• What is the name of the equipment? 
• What service/system is it part of? 
• Where is this equipment located? and why is it located there? 
• Include a photo(s) of the equipment

Inter-relationships

• What other services and/or equipment does this item of equipment rely on (if any)? 
• What other services and/or equipment rely on this item of equipment (if any)?

Technical

• What are the recommended maintenance requirements for this item of equipment? How often is this maintenance required? Include source details in the report.
• What is the typical life span for this item of equipment? Include source details in the report.
• What is the estimated cost of this piece of equipment? Include in the report a copy of the relevant page(s) from Rawlinsons’ Construction Handbook or Rawlinsons’ Construction Cost Guide (2021 editions)

Allocated equipment

• The concise and clear general description which introduces the equipment 
• Concise and clear discussion of the operation and interrelationships of the equipment which demonstrates knowledge and understanding 
• Inclusion of well-researched technical information appropriate to the equipment 
• Concise and clear conclusion discussing the differences and similarities between domestic scale and commercial scale equipment.
