In addition to work on Agile project management and project resource levelling – the topics for assignment 1 – we have now studied, or by week 11 will have studied, the following topics:
Stages of team development, including some psych aspects of each stage
The Situational Leadership model for leadership style application to both individuals and teams in various stages of development

• Relationship Awareness theory
• Negotiation skills
• Emotional Intelligence
• Stress and some approaches to dealing with it
• Conflict management
• You are required to address a minimum of three of the above topics and a maximum of five of them in answering the assignment question/s. You may use the topics you choose and write a specific piece to respond to the question below under that topic as a heading, or you may write one inter-related piece of work that addresses a single situation through the lens of the range of topics you choose.
• The assignment question
• The approach to your work should follow one of the following options:
• Option 1
• Choose a work or life experience – it can be personal, family-related or work-related – even something you noticed occurred for someone other than yourself, or for that matter, a situation from a movie
• Explain what happened that was relevant to the topic areas above (i.e. it was a team development matter/issue, or a conflict, negotiation or emotional intelligence issue – something to do with any of the topics above) – be sure to explain the issue succinctly but provide as much relevant detail of the problem as you saw it/see it
• Examine the issue through the lens of what you learnt in class – especially the topics listed above. I reiterate the requirement stated above – a minimum of three topics and a maximum of five to be ‘used’
• Write suggestions of how a different, possibly better outcome might have been attained if the skills learned above during class had been applied in the situation/s chosen
• Option 2
• As per the above, except that, instead of choosing one issue/experience and writing about it through the lens of three to five of the topics schedule above, choose three to five life events (of the type described above) and write, within the defined total assignment word count defined earlier herein, about each of the topics you select through between three to five of the lenses above as you like, again briefly defining each issue and describing how the selected skills covered during the subject might have produced a better result in the circumstances. You might choose one topic per issue, or you might choose one topic for one issue and two for each of two additional issues (or any combination which leads to a total of three to five issues being addressed via a total of three to five of the topic areas above – it does not need to be three to five topics from the subject material being addressed for each of the life events you choose to address).

• Years of teaching this and other subjects pre-warns me there will be interpretations of this page different from that I intended. That is the nature of communication. This being the case, please email me your concerns or questions, if any, as soon as possible and I will collate them and provide responses to all questions asked in an announcement to everyone next week before class, and/or address questions asked during next week’s class.
• Please note
• This work will be very simple and straight forward for those of you who have attended or reviewed all lectures either online or after class time. However, if you have not done either of these, I strongly suggest you review the class video before writing your assignment. It will be quite difficult to a credit or higher grade by attempting to complete this assignment from the notes only.
• Finally…
• As advised during lecture one, there are twenty marks for engagement in this subject. Simply being in the class each week or being online each week does constitute engagement, but not a a high level. Engagement in class discussion and contribution via chat during class constitutes a higher level of engagement, as does involvement in class exercises and contribution to questions asked either online or from the classroom floor when questions are posed. One student who is in a time zone that makes it very difficult to attend class communicates with me with unsolicited comments following class etc. and this constitutes solid engagement as well. Please make it easy for yourself by helping me to help you (with thanks to Tom Cruise for that line) with a good engagement mark by being VERY engaged via chat or in the classroom for the remaining lectures.
