79year old Female end stage of lung cancer. Was admitted to hospital with pneumonia and pleural effusion, after 3days in hospital on syringe driver, morphine break through and medazepam the patient’s family had left as she was quiet settled for the day. The patient had a met call due to saturation’s dropping to 78%. The patient continued to deteriorate; the family was called to notify but unfortunately it was to late she passed before they arrived. The patient had her advanced care directive stating not for resuscitation, ACD are a good thing as it gives nurses, DRs and other staff notice on what they want in hospital care. After the family had the time with her to say their goodbyes, they notified the nursing staff so we could attend to her and get her ready for the next process. Nursing staff went in and pre pared her for the morgue, cleaned patient, removed any cannulas that were insitu, removed any jewellery  that was on the deceased and put in a container, documented what the deceased was wearing in jewellery, new disposable white gown placed on deceased,3 x tags attached to patient, into the body bag ready for transfer. When wardsman and Nursing In charge arrived information was checked, deceased placed on transport trolley and taken to the morgue. The feeling toward preparing the deceased was not bad as I have dealt with it at work several times the morgue and see what happens and what the morgue is like was different, I have never been to a morgue, so it was an experience for me, was very good to see what happens in that situation. I would not change anything on what happened this day (own reference, 2020).
