Project work reflection (2 marks)
- Take this opportunity to develop this skill by reflecting on how your project is travelling against the key elements of the Agile project management framework, knowledge areas and success factors.
- Reflect on your project work so far and record a short (300 words) reflection in your journal
- Use references to support your thoughts/reflections.
- This is not an opportunity to complain about your team members - no marks will be deducted for identifying and acknowledging areas your team may have missed in the project to date. No references is required.
- ScenarioOverviewScenario:
- A new major international airport is being built. You have joined with a few others to form a transportation project team. This new international airport codenamed NBW Airport for NBW City. It will have the most sophisticated passenger transportation system incorporating the latest technologies.
- High Speed Track for AirTrain have been built connecting six major population centres. These points are more than just stations.
- Here are some features:
- Some stations have baggage handling (baggage drop) capability. This means that passengers can check in baggage at these stations for their flight. There is no need to carry your check in baggage onto the train.
- Stations further away have meal and refreshment kitchen facilities.
- Each train can take 200 passengers. All passengers must be seated. Trains to each destination can depart from airport every 10 minutes and return at the same rate. [Scheduling is “out of project scope”.]
- Flights are arriving and departing at a steady rate 24/7. [Scheduling is “out of project scope”.]
For all routes:
AirTrain is the epitome of transport convenience for travellers to NBW Airport. When you board the AirTrain in all stations heading to the airport, every passenger (including child) must occupy a seat. Any seat can be converted into a child seat or to accommodate a wheelchair. No standing is permitted. As the train is travelling, the passenger will check in for the flight using a terminal in front of the seat. The passenger will also scan passport details for immigration purposes and an in-built camera will capture photographic details for the trip. This may be a photo, video for facial recognition, finger print, visa document or passport. A boarding slip is printed
from the unit. The train arrives at the Departure Hall, the passenger scans his boarding slip and proceeds to the respective aircraft gate.
There are immigration, security and check-in officials present in every train carriage to assist passengers. If a passenger cannot check in, the passenger will be manually checked-in and cleared by the officials on the train.
Projects:
TICKETING SYSTEMYour team will design, implement a ticketing system for the train services that must be integrated with customs and immigration and “baggage drop” systems. Train and flight tickets are separate systems and it is up to your team whether they would be integrated. Your focus is on train ticketing which must include option for refreshment order (and variation). The train ticket must be complete all the way to payment stage. Payment systems (credit card/EFTPOS) may be out of scope.
IMPORTANT NOTES
For information purposes, the AirTrain service does not permit travel from first to second station and vice-versa on all routes (eg. Mountains to Kingdom). All trips must start or end at NBW Airport.
While seated for the trip, active scanning technology scans all carry-on bags and items present on the person. If any contraband is found, an alert will sound and passenger will undergo manual security check upon arrival.
The Product Sponsor in weekly meetings will update through a pre-recorded video on updates and developments.
Integrated Seatback Check In, Immigration and Ticketing Terminal
- Regular check in service is also available at NBW airport but you cannot take the AirTrain and opt for airport check in. With the air train, you only need to arrive at the airport station 15 minutes before your departure time therefore saving a lot of time.
- You have secured a job working on an ITC project as part of a larger project team. Your new organisation uses the Agile project management approach.
- Your project sponsor (that’s the person that pays you) will address and update you each week via video (MP4). You must view this video before attending the Online Briefing Session. If you cannot attend this Online meeting, communicate your question to another team member that will be attending who may ask the question on your behalf. The session will be recorded. If you do not attend, please listen to the recording by 12 noon the next day so your team will not be waiting on you.
- Your team has a choice of two projects. Pick any ONE.
- The following contractual obligations are stipulated and cannot be varied by Project Team:
- The entire project cannot be outsourced or sub-contracted to another company/team. It is to remain with your Project Team. Minor roles within the project can be outsourced. Check with the Project Sponsor.
- All activities/actions must be applicable and legal within Australian and state laws.
- For the purpose of this project, you may assume 5G is in full service in all locations and there is no problem with coverage or service.
- There is no budgetary constraints for this project as the Project Sponsor wants this project to be state-of-the-art.
- Your team is requested to use best technology available (or currently in final stages of research). Substantiate this with appropriate literature.
- This is not a technical project specification exercise. There is no need to get into the finer definition of standards, service speeds and/or detailed technical aspects.
