Regarding my specific area of academic interest, it is my hope to pursue a thesis entitled “Experimental investigations to intensify structural integrity, resilience and sustainability of concrete elements by using recyclable and reused material in civil engineering application.” This area of interest is inspired by my awareness of ever-increasing pressure on civil infrastructure due to surges in population throughout the world. I am interested in exploring the opportunities to explore cost-effective solutions to expanding this infrastructure with the recognition of limited materials. I believe this research topic will be a great opportunity for me to be creative and innovative as an engineer, and the thesis-based program will allow me to both learn and solve engineering problems at the same time.
My distinct academic and professional career journey includes an extended diploma in Aerospace Engineering from UK-based Newcastle College, and the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sunderland. In regard to how my past education has prepared me to be successful in this graduate program, it is important for me to note that my investment of time and energy in these eye-opening degrees has been toward a very intentional goal of pursuing a career in Civil Engineering. Having dreamed of a career in engineering since my childhood, I am looking to exercise my natural aptitude for mathematics to approach this career path in an unconventional manner, in order to become a Civil Engineer with a rare perspective, and a big picture mindset to understand how civil design is influenced by materials, physics, mathematics and the most intricate of detail.
