Assignment Task

Your group has been assigned to undertake the structural, geotechnical, and civil design of the complex using a mixture of modular, prefabricated and in-situ construction concepts. You will work with one/two Master of Architect student/s to provide any structural/civil/geotechnical engineering inputs as well as requirements so that the student architect can develop architectural concepts and drawings. Based on architectural drawings, your group will develop structural/civil/hydraulic/geotechnical concepts, design and drawings for the development using a mixture of modular, prefabricated and in-situ construction method.

Soil classification has been undertaken by the Client as following:

  • Site classification: the soil can be classified as Class A as per AS 2870
  • Bearing capacity of soil: 150 KPa SWL for strip footing and 175 KPa SWL for pad Note that these values are in safe working load. For ultimate values, a factor of 3 can be used (eg. 3x150=450 KPa ultimate for strip footing)
  • Expected settlements: 10
  • Water table is
    • Deep: 10m below natural ground level
