The assignment steps are as follows:
 Find a single, well designed and compelling data visualisation from the web. This can include an interactive visualisation or dashboard (multiple related visualisations on a single screen). The visualisation must fit into a single frame in your vodcast. The visualisation must be based on real-world data. The topic and type of data visualisation is your choice. Make sure it can be used to tell a compelling story. 

o Important note: Please avoid data visualisations that already have a well-developed narrative (e.g. visualisations that already have the story provided). You will need to demonstrate your ability to build a narrative and use a variety of narrative data visualisation techniques to tell a compelling story. You cannot be awarded marks for copying someone else's narrative. That would risk plagiarism. 

 Use the data visualisation to help construct and tell a story by recording a 2 minute vodcast (see section on Vodcasting below). The aim is to use storytelling techniques, data visualisation and audio to convey a lasting message. You are NOT permitted to re-tell a data visualisation already presented as a narrative visualisation. This risks plagiarism and does not assess your ability to construct a narrative. 

 Upload and share your vodcast video file using OneDrive. Copy your vodcast's URL. 

 Create a Word/PDF document to upload to Canvas with your student name and number, vodcast URL, audio transcript of the vodcast and a citation to the original data visualisation and any other media used in the vodcast (images, music, video etc.). 

 Submit Assignment 1 document to Canvas.

Vodcast

 Your vodcast is limited to 2 minutes (absolute max, no exception). The vodcast must be uploaded as a video file. Powerpoints slides are NOT permitted. The vodcast must include the following:
o The original data visualisation
o A verbal acknowledgement of the source of the original visualisation. 
o Your narration of the story
o Any supporting materials - e.g. images (make sure you reference the source), information slides etc.
o Your final frame in the Vodcast must include your list of references to the original data visualisation and any supporting media. 
 The quickest and easiest way to create a vodcast is to use Microsoft Powerpoint. You can audio record your slides used in the vodcast and later save the slides as a single video file. Please see the instructions here (Links to an external site.).
