Discuss strategies for new product introduction.  Do you agree, for example, with the late Steve Jobs (Apple), who stated that Apple should tell customers what they need?  Please discuss this statement in a broad context considering the disruptive industry changes invoked by the 3rd and 4th Industrial revolutions especially by the currently ongoing digital revolution of Industry 4.0 .

Operations Function  -  Operations Managers must not limit their engagement to administering existing products and existing processes.  OM are charged with a cross-functional optimization of the entire operation.  Thus, The OM’s concern includes:  process, quality, capacity, and inventory.  In all areas, the OM must be innovative and flexible in his organizational thinking.
 Operations Strategy  -  The main focus here is Supply Chain management, which is the competitive weapon of the firm.  Operational and financial success of the firm in the market place strongly depends on a well-functioning supply chain.  Thus, a major area of the OM’s responsibility includes the financial performance of the entire transformation process from raw material and labor to product delivery to the customer.
 Product Design  -  Product functionality, ease of cost-effective manufacturing, and failure-free operations in the hands of the customer, all falls into the range of the OM’s responsibility.
 As we learn about these traditional objectives and responsibilities of the OM, we must also recognize the disruptive changes imposed by the 4th industrial revolution, which is currently in full swing.  The latter expresses itself in the form of globalization and digital transformations. 
 Globalization affects the supply chain management practices and the selection of warehouse and manufacturing centers.  Digital transformation affects the structure of supply chains, manufacturing techniques, and distribution systems.  In the factories we use smart machines and combine them to smart factories.  The latter become known as Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS).  Humans do not operate the machines anymore.  The machines operate themselves and are in communication with each other and the market, i.e., the customer!  All the things you will learn about how to optimize the entire process is already being done in an automated fashion by the machines themselves.  The OM’s responsibility is to set up this automated system and make sure it works flawlessly.
CPS are not mentioned in your text but you want to read up on these new systems and become familiar with their nature and their impact on your career choices.  The robotics nature of CPS is based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Communication and Information technology (CIT) and the International Internet of Things (IIoT).  I recommend that you engage in a brief research on the Internet to build a beginning of the knowledge of these new things that will decisively affect your professional career.
