Case Scenario You are a nurse working in drug and alcohol consultation and liaison service. You arrive on duty at 0900 hours and have been delegated a referral for a drug and alcohol assessment. The client is waiting in the emergency department of the local hospital. Referral information so far: Tom is a 19-year-old labourer who lives with his mother. His father was an alcoholic and left the family when Tom was 8 years old (This suggests disrupted attachments and personality vulnerabilities or personality disorder).
