Highlights
Show all your work for partial credit. You will need to submit all your work in vUWS. Include scanned copy of your handwritten work and spreadsheets, if any, you have generated. All handwritten pages must be numbered and legible. Please note that illegible and scanned images without page numbers may not be marked and may be assigned zero mark.
Make justifiable and meaningful engineering assumptions, where necessary.
All questions are for a hydrologic catchment whose centroid is located at latitude of 25.Xo South and longitude of 14X.Yo East, respectively; where X and Y are the last two digits of your student ID. For example, if your student ID is 12345678, X = 7 & Y = 8 which results in the centroid of the catchment being at the latitude of 25.7 o South and the longitude of 147.8 o East.
a) Generate the IFD table using 2016 Design Rainfall Data System. Use thus generated IFD table to estimate the rainfall depth for a 30min storm with an AEP
of Z%, where
Z = 1 if 0 ≤ x ≤ 2
Z = 2 if 2 < x ≤ 4
Z = 5 if 4 < x ≤ 7
Z = 10 if x > 7
For example, Z = 5 if your student ID is 12345678. Describe how you obtained your solution.
b) Use the ARR Data Hub to construct the rainfall hyetograph for the 30-minute rainfall generated in part (a) above. State any assumptions made and explain how you obtained the temporal distribution. Show relevant sample calculations. Plot the generated hyetograph.
c) How will the direct runoff hydrograph generated in part (c) above change if it travels through a 10 km long channel with weighting factor of 0.2X and travel time constant of 10.Y minute? For example, the channel will have the weighting factor of 0.27 and travel time constant of 10.8-minutes for the student ID = 12345678. What is the percentage difference between the peak discharges of the inflow and the routed hydrographs? What is the peak translation time in minutes? Plot the inflow and routed hydrographs showing all salient features.
d) Explain how each part of the above questions can be linked if you’re analyzing a natural catchment.
