This assignment asks students to articulate how they would intervene or set about developing a process for intervention with a nominated population about a particular social problem. Remember that every intervention includes an assessment of the situation and key issues. Every intervention has some kind of theoretical orientation and value base. Each intervention relates to a mode of practice. And every social problem relates to other social problems. Making your way through these complexities is a key component of the assignment.
 
In assignment one, you focussed on what it meant to you to seek help. In this assignment, you are to focus on helping others. Specifically, you are asked to write a paper about a social problem as it affects a specified population, through the lens of critical social work/human service practice.

You are encouraged to select a social problem that interests you and relate it to a group of people (population) that you are also interested in, drawn to, scared of etc. Ideally, you will choose your own scenario but if you are finding this difficult you may choose the following social issues:
