Your practice framework is a work in progress; we should never think that it is 'complete' or 'fixed in stone'. You add to this and it changes as you grow and develop as a practitioner. Being able to articulate the components of your emerging framework is critical to how reflective, ethical, effective and accountable you are as a social work practitioner. Why is this important? You need to commence with a discussion about why articulating our framework is important for social work.  It is important because social work consists of skills and knowledge, along with the artistry and creativity that is involved.  Given we work with people we need to ensure that what we are doing is robust and drawing on the existing research and evidence helps us demonstrate this.

Your use of examples from placement to demonstrate your framework for practice is essential, so choose an example or examples that is/are relevant and help/s demonstrate each component. Ensure that the example/s is/are de-identified. 

Choose 2 key components for each area - You are not expected to discuss every single value, skill, theory, etc in your framework. Choose the key 2 that have really developed and guided your practice over your placement. For example, you may say that you have identified four key values so far on placement, and you’ll give an example of one or two of these and how these have shaped your practice etc.

Use examples from placement - When you discuss theories, be really clear about the range of theories that have influenced your practice, you don’t need to provide definitions of the theories but you are expected to talk about theories broader than the Strengths perspective. So think about the range of theories that are used in your agency that you have drawn on, and you have developed greater understanding of as you have progressed and then provide an example of how you have used this. You might choose one particular case that demonstrates values and culture and ethics. You might talk about another situation that demonstrates how your understanding of theories and knowledge was used and integrated into your practice.
