Systematic review on Advances and Challenges in Chemotherapy of the Patient with Pancreatic Cancer using FOLFIRINOX
Introduction
Pancreas is an organ involved in digestion. Pancreas releases enzymes that are required for digestion and is responsible for producing insulin to control blood sugar levels. Pancreas is located behind the stomach in the front of spine, It is about 15 cm long and 5 cm wide. (Zhu, H. et al. 2018)

Epidemiology
Pancreatic cancer (PC) is about 95% of the tumours that arise in the pancreas. The most common type of pancreatic tumour is ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). It accounts for about 85% of all neoplasms and more than 95% of all PCs arise from the exocrine (digestive enzymes) elements. PDAC is one of the largest causes of cancer-related mortality in the Western world. Incidence rates are increasing rapidly, with majority of patients being metastatic at diagnosis and progression within 1 year of diagnosis. (Kindler, H.L, et al. 2012) Prognosis of PDAC remains poor with a 5-year survival rate of 8%. The only potential cure is surgical resection. However, only about 10-15% of patients that have PC are eligible, as at diagnosis 52% of PC cases are stage IV (metastatic). Stage IV patients are eligible for chemotherapy regimens with the aim to prolong survival and reduce symptoms, mainly by increasing quality of life. Lifetime risk of developing pancreatic cancer (PC) is about 1.5%. PC affects both males and females almost equally. The average age of the patients that develop PC is about 70 years.
