Highlights
TASK:
You should analyze the Project's Specifications of the attached case study and prepare its delivery. The objective is to minimize TIME associated with the project. You should produce a report that explains in detail the scope, scheduling, planning, and resourcing of the project as prepared by you using Microsoft Project.
Assessment Criteria
Critically assess and evaluate the complexities of a substantial business project, considering the time/cost/quality parameters, and break the project down into logical work and cost elements Demonstrate the ability to analyze/interpret a computer-based project model and use it to manage a project through to a successful conclusion Create a computer-based project schedule by entering all the necessary inputs and create a set of professional project reports Critically analyze the tactics necessary in order to track project progress and expenditure against plans and budgets, and make interventions as necessary.
Points to consider: You should produce the project's final schedule, resources allocation with the choice of the team that can lead to the minimum cost and produces the final budget of the project. This should be done using Microsoft Project software that is available in the computer labs at Anglia Ruskin London campus.
Based on this you must produce a final report, using information, data and tables form the above-referred software. The report should incorporate the following chapters:
o Executive Summary
O Introduction (Chapter 1)
O Analysis of the Project Specifications (Chapter 2) - Assess and evaluate the
complexities of the business project, taking into account the time/cost/quality parameters, and break the project down into logical work and cost elements Project Initial Schedule (Chapter 3) - Create a computer-based project schedule by entering all the necessary inputs and create a set of professional project data Resources of the Project (Chapter 4) - Attribute resources to the proposed
project schedule
o Bottom-up Budget (Chapter 5) - Present a bottom-up budget of the project.
O Conclusions and Recommendations (Chapter 6)
o References
o Appendixes The report should use as appendices all necessary and relevant maps and charts produced by Microsoft Project 2013/2016. The MS Project file generated for this report should be uploaded separately on VLE on a submission link prepared for this. The Project Specifications are attached. Any information that is missing and needed will be provided and justified by the student.
TATA's Nano Case Study
TATA is one of the biggest industrial groups in India. It developed a small family car – the Nano- in 2009. Although the price was substantially lower than its competitors, the quality of the car led to the failure of the project and the need to revise its standards. Upon a thorough revision of the car's plan, TATA recognized also the need to improve the quality of production so as to avoid faulty cars. Therefore, TATA's strategy is to try to improve the quality of the car. As such, there is a plan to produce it, during a year, either in Europe or in India but using more experienced workers from Europe who could then train Indian workers and develop their skills to improve product's quality on the following years. This should happen during the year of 2020 and hopefully in 2021 a new plan for Indian production.
The plan for 2020 is to build it in three several plants using experienced workers coming from Germany, the United Kingdom, India, and Spain and using plants in those respective places. However, workers from one country could be allocated to another if there was a shortage of labor or the requirement for a specifically skilled workforce.
The production is divided into four main areas:
• The Engine
The Shell
The Assemblage
• The Finishing (painting, seats, instruments, etc.).
The workflow enables that both engine and shell production can be done at the same time but that assemblage can only start after both engine and shell are finished and that finishing can only be started and completed upon the conclusion of assemblage.
It represents the number of days. a worker that needs to be engaged for production.
So, for example, using a German Team, the production of one engine will take:
- 0.25 day.worker of a Foreman
1.00 day.worker of an Assistant Foreman 6.00 day.worker of a Level 1 worker 6.00 day.worker of a Level 2 worker 6.00 day.worker of a Level 3 worker
This means that in order to build an engine in one day the team has to comprise: One Foreman, one Assistant Foreman and 6 Level 1, 6 Level 2 and 6 Level 3 workers. Furthermore, the Foreman will only have 25% of his day allocated to this team which means that he can be in charge of 4 teams at the same time.
The same happens if it is decided that it will take two days to build an engine. Then the team has to comprise:
One Foreman, one Assistant Foreman and 3 Level 1, 3 Level 2 and 3 Level 3 workers. 25% of his day (during two days) allocated to this team which means that he can be in charge of 4 teams at the same time. Similarly, the Assistant Foreman will have only 50% of his time allocated to the team which means that he can be in charge of 2 teams at the same time,
There are two possible strategies for building the teams. one is to engage only German workers and benefit of their previous experience which will lead to a shorter period of time but a higher budget; alternatively, there would be a management team from Germany and the remaining workers would come from India. The advantage of this last one is that these workers would benefit from training on the job while producing this batch of cars. It is also possible to use Mixed Team III whenever the two previous teams are not sufficient to complete the tasks on time.
As previously mentioned, teams can be built with different workers coming from Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, and India. Different Hourly rates apply. Overtime will only be possible 2 hours per day. Working on weekends will only be possible one day per weekend.
