Your client's requirements include the possible development of a new Headquarters building as outlined on sketches No TC60044E/01 and TC60044E/02 accompanying this brief. A new three-storey pitched roof ‘L-shaped’ Headquarters Building for use as administration offices as outlined on the accompanying sketches TC60044E/01 and TC60044E/02. 2. The construction should take into account the fact that the building is needed urgently for early occupation. 3. The depth of floor construction is limited by the specified height requirement and the need for a services void totally free of beams. 4. The Plant is to be accommodated in a 4m width of roof, as indicated, with units positioned between main roof support members. 5. The internal partitions are not load bearing. However, one line only of internal columns is acceptable on either of the lines of the internal partitions. 6. Fire resistance of one hour minimum is to be provided. 7. The entrance blocks can be used to assist overall structural stability. 8. Roof and wall cladding should be compatible with a rapid construction programme and should be suitable for a semi-rural environment. 9. On the north side, a single-storey fully glazed restaurant area is required with a minimum number of internal columns. The structure is to be exposed and aesthetically pleasing. 10. The shaded area of the 'L-shaped' building, that is the shorter return length, requires to be free of any internal partitions and any columns at ground floor level whilst still maintaining the floor depth limits. Assume the following site conditions: ? Town Terrain ? Site altitude: 20 m above sea level ? Closest distance to the sea: 30 km ? Building height: as determined Take fundamental basic wind velocity, vb,map as 22 m/s (from Figure NA.1). Omit from consideration All construction below ground. Task: 1 1.(a) Prepare an illustrated design appraisal indicating at least two distinct and workable concept arrangements for the structure. Identify clearly the functional framing, load transfer and stability aspects of each scheme. Produce neat, dimensioned, annotated general arrangement sketches of the whole structure for both arrangements (must be to scale). (b) Describe the alternative schemes considered and outline the design process by which a final scheme was reached explaining and giving reasons why the alternatives were rejected. Clearly show how the design has been developed to minimise the carbon footprint. 2 For one only of the schemes devised produce neat annotated diagrams (may be freehand) showing the load paths followed and the effects on the structure of the following: (a) Vertical Permanent Dead and Variable Imposed load (b) Wind and other lateral loading. 3 For the concept scheme considered in (1.1) above carry out preliminary calculations to justify the sizing of the typical main structural elements for each scheme. Task: 2 Final Analysis & Design 1.For the concept scheme selected in the Conceptual Design Part 1 of this assignment, accordingly modified if necessary, prepare sufficient final design calculations to establish the form and size of all principal structural elements (excluding foundations, ground floor slabs and access stairs). 2 Prepare annotated, scaled and dimensioned general arrangement drawings of your structural design 3 Produce neat clearly annotated sketches to illustrate details for the following: a) Roof/column element junction b) Roof cladding/purlins/rafter c) Column base/dry dock wall connection
