Research Task

The very nature of Entrepreneurship is about innovation and creativity, and there is no better teacher than one who teaches from experience. You may not have run a business, but your journey of entrepreneurship has been a unique one.

In this Research Essay you will explore both the academic and personal foundations that have built your own entrepreneurial knowledge, and then explore how (as a teacher) you will transfer that to your learners.

Write a Research Essay with a Literature Review exploring the academic basis on which your own entrepreneurial growth was built. You need to explore what academic foundations you have for teaching the Entrepreneurship section in EMS such as, for example:

• Commercial subjects at school, short courses, your past degree/s;
• The educational thought leaders that influenced your thinking and beliefs (this will be done in the form of a Literature Review);
• Any practical entrepreneurial experiences that you have had

Remember that the teaching of any topic or subject requires adequate scaffolding of the related SKAVs (Skills, Knowledge, Attitudes and Values), and unpack this journey in your own life from an academic perspective.

• Think about the topics of this TEMS701 module that have helped you grow as a prospective Economics and Management Sciences Teacher.
• Find online academic articles that are relevant to the topics you have learnt since the start of this module. Make use of at least THREE academic resources – use the EBSCOhost databases and Google scholar by searching terms/keywords

Introduction

Introduce your Research Essay by explaining what you intend to write about. Your introduction should captivate the reader’s attention and motivate them to read further.

• Your introduction should also include the approach that you experienced when you studied this topic in EMS/Business Studies at school and/or in post-school studies.
• Include any personal experience in Entrepreneurship, for example, Entrepreneurship Days at school, family businesses or running your own business (products or services).
• Think of this introduction as the ‘abstract’, similar to the abstract of a journal article or a research article.

Literature Review

In this section you need to set the context for the reader with respect to what the literature says about the growth of entrepreneurial knowledge in education.

• Discuss at least THREE different approaches, and you may want to show a contrasting point of view as well. Search for relevant journal articles and texts.
• This is a section that sets the scene from the literature, so it must contain rich information and ideas from other authors to underscore the learning you have experienced, and the viewpoints that influenced your own opinion on it.

The approach adopted by the EMS CAPS in relation to your approach

In this section you attempt to relate the constructs from the literature review section to your initial interpretation of the NSC CAPS for EMS document.

• Remember to construct a logical argument. You need to build your argument from the introduction and relate to the literature sources as you go.
• In this section you are also required to relate all that you have discussed so far in the essay and logically relate it to your own future teaching style as an EMS teacher.
• Ensure that you have smooth transitions – take the reader on the journey with you towards the conclusion.
