Task Description and Process for Completion

This is a multimodal presentation which explores an essay-style question related to the comparative study and “Textual Conversations” between two texts taken from different contexts. These texts are: William Shakespeare - The Tempest Margaret Atwood - Hag-Seed

The multimodal presentation is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and skills across a range of the modes. A multimodal presentation includes at least one mode other than reading and writing such as listening, speaking, viewing or representing.

The question you are asked to explore in your presentation is as follows:

Even with the retelling of a great text in modern times, a well crafted contemporary text may mirror, align and/or collide with the original text thematically, stylistically and structurally.

To what extent do you agree with this statement? In your response, refer to your two prescribed texts The Tempest and Hag-Seed.

In creating their presentations students should:

Review their notes on The Tempest and Hag-Seed

Consider key aspects of the module description (it is not necessary to address each one, rather to consider them as a whole)

Consider how the comparative study of texts can reveal resonances and dissonances between and within texts.

Consider the ways that a reimagining or reframing of an aspect of a text might mirror, align or collide with the details of another text.

Consider common or disparate issues, values, assumptions or perspectives and how these are depicted and why. How composers (authors, poets, playwrights, directors, designers and so on) are influenced by other texts, contexts and values, and how this shapes meaning for audiences.

The textual features, conventions, contexts, values and purpose of two prescribed texts.

How your understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of both texts has been enhanced through the comparative study.

Appropriate analytical and evaluative language required to compose informed, cohesive.

Responses using appropriate terminology, grammar, syntax and structure.

Combine both speaking and visuals to enhance their presentation.

Think about ways you can also engage your audience with visuals - the presentation should not just be you reading an essay, it should be an authoritative discussion of your texts using visual stimuli. This should include key quotes or images, or brief clips.

Remember your aim is to teach your class something about textual conversations - make it fun to watch.
