Camos is a German global automotive supplier headquartered in Germany. It supplied a wide range of products to automakers and the aftermarket. The Group employs 1 lakh people in 33 countries worldwide. It has 186 production plants, 59 R&D centers. Its strategy is focused on innovation and development in high-growth potential regions and emerging countries. One of its R&D center was established in Noida, which had 2000+ engineers working in research and development. It was an offshore center that supported the Group on its R&D initiatives. Camos was very particular that they have the culture of innovation, openness and transparency, irrespective of the location.
Every year the group conducts pulse surveys to understand the employee engagement levels in their various centers. It was conducted by an independent third party and ensured anonymity of the responses. 79% of the people had given their responses to the pulse survey. When the results came up, they fared well in most of the factors. One of the factors in which the entity fell short was on autonomy and control. When compared to centers in worldwide locations, it was the lowest. The Group was concerned that the lack of autonomy might be the cause for low innovation and creativity. This was backed by the smaller number of patents filed by the entity. Rachna is the HR manager of this entity. She reported to the German HR Director and had only a functional reporting relationship with the Director of the entity. Group asked her to find out the reasons for the low autonomy and control.
