Task 1
It is necessary to control the position of a pinion in a rack and pinion system as shown in figure 1 below.
The pinion is attached directly to the output shaft of a 12V 10W DC motor. The motor is controlled by a Microcontroller. The Microcontroller can signal to the motor to turn in either the clockwise or anti clockwise directions using a PWM signal. Your task is to
investigate a suitable transducer to be used as a feedback element for the Microcontroller to indicate the exact position of the Rack.
Design (outline schematic ) a suitable interface for the microcontroller drive signal(s)

Task 2 .A tracking radar similar to that shown in Figure 2 below requires a control system in order drive the radar direction whilst tracking a fast moving target. The mass of the moving radar dish and assembly is approximately 150kg. The dish will be required to slew in in both horizontal and vertical directions. A suitable means of driving the dish is required.
