2. The first column provides the roman numeral and name of the cranial nerve. Both are acceptable ways to refer to these structures.

2. • The trigeminal nerve (CNV) has three divisions, each with their own terminal branches, pathways, etc. The divisions are usually written as a subscript (e.g., CNV1, CNV2, and CNV3) and have their own names. 

3. The second column asks you to identify the major terminal branches of the corresponding nerve.

   • List ALL the named branches described in your lab manual (bolded and italicized). 

   • As not all nerves have branches, some cells should be left blank. 

4. The third column asks you to list the bony passageways that the nerve travels through.

   • Only list the specifically named passageways: foramina, fissures, meatuses, etc.

   • If the nerve branches before leaving the skull, specify the passage that the branches leave through. 

5. The fourth column asks you to list any ganglia associated with the nerve.

   • As not all nerves are associated with ganglia, some cells should be left blank.

6. The last five columns ask you to list the major structures innervated by this nerve (e.g., muscles, glands, sensory organs, internal organs, etc.). 

   • To do this, you will have to sort structures by whether they are somatic motor, parasympathetic, somatic sensory, special sensory, or visceral sensory. This may require you look elsewhere in the lab manual or review your lecture material to understand what these terms mean as the structure may not be explicitly labelled as a somatic vs a visceral structure.

   • Special senses are sight, taste, hearing, and balance.

   • As not all nerves carry parasympathetic fibers or innervate somatic or visceral structures, some cells should be left blank.
