Overview

Taking the position of someone writing a briefing paper on issues of identity and belonging for particular minority groups, students are to write a report in response to ONE of the following scenarion.

You work for a migrant resource centre in a big city. You have realised that many young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds do not have the opportunity to participate in any extracurricular activities or to socialise outside of school. Some of them, especially new arrivals, feel marginalised and excluded from local friendship groups. You would like to provide a safe space for these young people to socialise with each other by organising a weekly leisure program.

The program would comprise leisure activities that all young people could participate in, such as team sports, dance, drama and arts and crafts. To assist the CEO of the centre in applying for funding for such a program, write a briefing paper outlining the importance of leisure to young people's identities and sense of belonging, especially those from culturally diverse backgrounds.Suggested modules to consider.
