3.7 Ethics and PlagiarismStudents are expected to familiarize themselves with the ethical implications of their proposed research and ensure all aspects of their research are conducted in an ethical manner.
3.7.1 Ethical ClearanceStudents are expected to get an Ethical Clearance Approval before they start with their data collection process. Ethical clearance is required to ensure that the research is conducted in a responsible, accountable and ethically manner and does not cause any harm to the participants of the research. The student can start with data gathering only after they get the ethical clearance form (see Appendix 4.1) approved from the Research Committee.
3.7.2 PlagiarismStudents are expected to familiarize themselves with the rules regarding plagiarism, and in submitting their dissertation in the LMS, students are acknowledging that the submission is entirely his/her own work. Students are required to produce dissertations that are their own work, and all material taken from other sources must be cited using the Harvard Referencing system. If plagiarism is detected, harsh penalties will be imposed.
3.8 SubmissionStudents must submit the final draft of dissertation through the learning management system gateway prior to the final date. No hard copy submissions are required or accepted.
3.9 Submission DocumentsThe submissions should consist of two documents. Firstly, the Dissertation file (in word format) adhering to all the suggested guidelines and secondly, the completed dissertation approval form (See appendix 4.2).
Please note that failure to submit the dissertation approval form (signed by the student and supervisor) along with the dissertation will result in a REDO by default.
3.9.1 The Dissertation Approval formThe dissertation approval form needs to be uploaded in the LMS as an additional document after uploading the dissertation in the LMS. This is a mandatory document. For more information on the Dissertation Approval form, please see Appendix 4.2 of this handbook. The dissertation approval form needs to be signed by the student and the respective supervisor prior to submission. It is the duty of the student to ensure that the completed form is verified, approved and signed by the supervisor prior to submission.
3.9.2 Plagiarism CheckOn completion of the final draft of dissertation, the academic team will conduct a plagiarism check via Turnitin based on the advice and discretion of the respective supervisor.
3.10 Extension of SubmissionSubmission extensions are considered only on a case-by-case basis and are usually only given based on excruciating circumstances and evidence provided for the same. Extension requests need to be applied in the LMS.
3.11 Research Methods sessionsAll learners are expected to attend the research methods sessions conducted as scheduled and informed by the course admin. The research methods are conducted to help learners understand the various aspects of Research and the dissertation journey in detail. Research method sessions usually involve detailed lectures and training activities on writing the literature review, different methodologies and philosophies, quantitative and qualitative analysis etc. among other aspects.
3.12 Research Proposal SubmissionAs indicated in Section 3.1, the students are expected to work on the research proposal during the Research Methods module and submit it in the LMS (please see section 3.1 for the exact dates)
3.13 What if you are dissatisfied with your Supervisor?Any requests with regard to dissatisfaction on supervisor feedback should be directed to course admin and relevant reasons should be stated. Upon verification of your request by the academic committee, necessary measures will be taken if needed by the Academic committee to make sure that the student gets the best supervision and support possible. (This is considered on a case-by-case basis)
3.14 Viva -Voce and Evaluation process3.14.1 Viva-VoceAfter the Dissertations are submitted via LMS, a Viva-Voce will be conducted for the students. The VIVA has a 20-percentage weightage of the total marks and the dates and the schedule for the VIVA will be informed by the course admin. Students need to make a 15-to-20-minute presentation about the research and dissertation which was undertaken. The key literature used, the methodology used, analysis and findings need to be briefly presented with the help of power point presentations. There is no specific structure as such for the presentations, but students are encouraged to make it informative and specific to the dissertation and research undertaken. The VIVA-VOCE will be conducted online via the e-lecta platform. Followed by the presentation, there will be a brief Q and A session by the facilitating committee which includes the supervisor and/or a professor who is an expert in the chosen area of research.
