Brief task description
This written assignment is an essay that requires you to self-reflect on one of the supplied topics using the Gibbs Reflective Cycle as a guide.
Task detail
Reflect on your experiences as a student working with an RN whilst on clinical placement and ask yourself “What did I identify as the challenges and successes of the RN as a clinical leader; and what strategies do I need to learn more about to effectively utilise personal power positively once I graduate as an RN?
Length 1800 words +/-10% (word length includes in-text referencing and excludes your reference list and appendices)
Guidelines / structure
The essay is to contain the following sections based on the Gibbs Reflective Cycle:
a.Introduction (100 words)– The introduction is a description of your chosen self-reflective topic and an overview of the key areas of your intended discussion.
b.Personal and Professional self-reflection (500 words)– This is a self-reflective discussion and includes your feelings. This section must provide a comprehensive discussion of the key areas you feel important to you as you transition into practice as an RN based on your chosen topic.
c.Evaluation (400 words)– This is a written evaluation that outlines how your self-reflection is supported or refuted by the literature? An evaluative discussion is required (as per Gibbs Reflective Cycle). The evaluation section must be supported through the use of contemporary, credible literature.
d.Analysis (400 words) – This is a discussion of key outcomes based on your reflection and evaluation and what best practice literature has informed you in relation to the chosen topic. (Note this section also covers the ‘conclusion’ section of the Gibbs cycle). e. Strategies for practice - (300 words) what specific positive strategies, based on your analysis, would assist you as you transition into practice as a registered nurse? This section relates to the Action Plan identified in the Gibbs Reflective Cycle. Credible literature sources that support your strategies are required and must be correctly referenced.
f.Essay Conclusion (100 words)– a summary of the main points and what you have learnt from the self-reflection. Note: this is not the Gibbs conclusion step – this is the conclusion to your essay. In this conclusion you also need to consider the process of reflection, and its importance, with reference to Gibbs cycle.
