Highlights
Title
The impact of alcohol consumption on teenagers
Problem description:
The risks associated with alcohol in teenagers
The health impacts
Objectives of literature search:
• The prevalence and the impact of alcohol
• Gather peer-reviewed literature reports of alcohol consumption in young people
• Identify the impacts, of alcohol in social life
• Identify the risk factors associated with alcohol
• Identify the consequences of drinking alcohol for young people
• Identify the positive consequence
Literature search strategy
Four principal scientific databases, namely PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Proquest: Public Health Database were used to find relevant articles.
To find the most appropriate, latest, and most relevant articles and limit the number of articles, only peer-reviewed articles published in the English language within the last ten years were included. Only human studies were included in the literature search.
The literature search was conducted using a logic grid of relevant keywords. Three search lines were used to assess the exposure, outcome, and workplace. The search terms such as “engineered stone”, “artificial stone”, “composite stone”, artificial quartz” and so on were used to assess the exposure. The search terms such as “pathology”, “silicosis”, “physicochem*”, “toxic*”,“fibrosis”, “silica related disease” and so on to assess the outcome. Also, the search terms such as “workplace”, “construction industry”, “artificial stone work”, “stone counter top”, “stone benchtop”, “kitchen benchtop”, “bathroom benchtop” and so on were used to limit the search within the occupational exposure of artificial stone dusts. The boolean operators such as “AND” and “OR” were used to combine these search terms to find more focused and appropriate results. A truncation such as asterisk (*) was used to retrieve all terms that mimic that specific search terminology. MeSH and Emtree were used in PubMed and Embase respectively to restrict the findings to the search terms. The logic grids of all four databases search are listed in the Appendix.
Summary of the yield and literature compilation
There were 22 articles from PubMed, 16 from Scopus, 3 from Embase, and 25 from Public Health database resulting 66 articles in total. All 66 articles were imported to Endnote and 9 duplicate articles were removed resulting in 57 articles for screening. There were both corrected and original versions of an article (Kramer et al. 2012). The original article was removed keeping the corrected version with 56 articles remaining. The title screening found 17 articles that were irrelevant to the study, for example, ‘Exposures associated with clandestine methamphetamine drug laboratories in Australia” (Wright, Edwards & Walker 2016). Some articles removed by title screening were related to occupational exposure to harmful chemical fumes, asbestos, and styrene. Abstracts helped to gain a comprehensive understanding of the theme of the articles and 11 articles were excluded after the abstract screening. An example of an excluded article after the abstract screening is “Silicosis Caused by Artificial Quartz Conglomerates: Keys to Controlling an Emerging Disease” (Pérez-Alonso, Córdoba-Doña & León-Jiménez 2019). The theme of this article is to address and recommend the exposure control measures including effective and timely health surveillance, which is, not relevant to our objective. The remaining 28 articles were reviewed and were relevant, however, 7 articles were specifically relevant suggesting the need for understanding the composite dust and providing knowledge on physicochemical and inflammatory characteristics of AS dust. Moreover, 3 articles were added from backward and forward search.
