The kangaroo population has been decreasing and increasing since 2000.
b) A scatterplot , focussing on the kangaroo population in the years 2006 – 2018 is shown in Figure 2. Use this graph and the given equations to write a short report. This report should include an interpretation of the gradient, m, the coefficient of determination, R 2 , and 1-R 2 . This report should also provide a prediction of the Australian population of kangaroos in 2021. In consideration of the R 2 value, what factors, other than time, may have affected the changes in population.

The data file A4 Animal Population Data.xls also contains the tab “Q2”.
This tab contains data relating to the populations of 2 specific animal in 2 separate years.
a) Calculate the general equation of the linear relationship between the year and the population for each animal.
b) Graph your results. Both equations should be on different Cartesian grids, and fully labelled.

This question again relates to the file A4 Animal Population Data.xls and the tab “Q3”.
a) For each species of kangaroo, create an () scatter plot. Both graphs should be on different Cartesian grids, and fully labelled.
b) Using excel, add the regression lines and display both equations.
c) Using your regression equations, predict the population of kangaroos in 2021 for both species. Comment on any unusual values.
