ASSESSMENT ITEM 2: DESCRIPTION

Effective clinical governance ensures safe, high-quality health care and continuous improvement in service delivery. Completing this essay will consolidate your foundational learning about clinical governance and its relationship to safety and quality in healthcare. 

You are required to discuss the topic: The National Model Clinical Governance Framework (ACSQHC, 2020) stipulates that health professionals have the responsibility to “actively take part in the development of an organisational culture that enables and gives priority to, patient safety and quality” (p. 11). 

As per the Task Words document available in the JCU Library. the task word, discuss, requires you to describe and interpret. To meet this requirement, you should:

• Describe clinical governance, safety and quality, and organisational culture.
• Interpret what this responsibility of taking part in the development of a patient safety and quality culture means for the health professional and their practice.

You are also required to incorporate a current quality or safety issue from your workplace in your essay. Ensure that you outline how you identified the issue and include a specific, measurable, achievable, result-orientated and time-scheduled (SMART) aim for an improvement project that addresses the quality or safety issue. Please refrain from analysing your identified issue or proposing solutions at this stage. You will undertake these tasks in Assessment Items 3 and 4. 

You are required to refer to relevant frameworks, standards, guidelines, reports and/or research within your essay using APA 7^th edition referencing, inclusive of the DOI where available. Structure this assessment as an essay with paragraphs, an introduction and a conclusion and do not include headings. You may write in first person or third person. Do not use a pseudonym for your workplace, instead, be mindful to include and reference non-confidential information only.
