Task description Essay topic
Consider the characteristics of 21st century learner. You can write your essay from the perspective of an educator, clinical leader, clinical facilitator, health professional or a blend of the above. In your writing you should take a position as to how a program of education in your health setting could be constructed to reflect contemporary teaching and learning practices. Apply relevant teaching and learning theories in your discussion.
Commence the paper with a literature review which introduces the attributes of a contemporary learner, including learning and teaching theories and the role of feedback. Discuss how health care education has adopted (or not) learning strategies that address some or none of the principles of 21st century learning. This section should be linked to evidence in the academic literature.
Then consider a recent program you have attended or delivered and how the content and delivery met or did not meet the principles of 21st century learner described in the literature. Make evidence-based recommendations for program improvement.
You can include in an appendix the program you delivered or was delivered to you. Please note that you do not need to go through all aspects of the program in the body of your paper as your appendix will include those not able to be discussed.

5. Writes clearly and succinctly in an appropriate academic style (presenting work in accordance with Presentation of Assignments guidelines) with correct referencing (Harvard Author-Date system in MyLO). Complies with required word count.
