STAKEHOLDER SCRIPTS (1,250-1,500 words, not including stage directions)

1. Select your preferred scenario (Scenarios are under the assessment tab on Blackboard).

2. Nominate which ONE stakeholder’s perspective you wish to portray.

3. Research the likely issues around the proposed development.

4. Write a 8-10 minute script for your nominated stakeholder that outlines and justifies their support or opposition to the proposed development. Assume they will be delivering your script at a community debate so write in first person. Include stage directions in [brackets] to indicate any directions for how your stakeholder should deliver sections of the script. 

Please make it clear in the introduction which stakeholder the script is for (eg. “Good morning everyone my name is Ms Taken, and I’m here to convince you that proposed resort development is going to be a disaster for our community”). Remember to provide justification for your stakeholder’s views. Try to counter or address issues that you think stakeholders on the opposing team would raise. 

Marks will be given for how well you are able to look at the issue from the perspective of your stakeholder, and for providing well-researched, relevant and convincing arguments. Using first person in your scripts should help you ‘get into the shoes’ of your stakeholder. You can give examples, statistics and case studies where appropriate, but keep in mind which stakeholder you have chosen. For example, if you are writing a script for a villager, they would not have access to statistics but they might know about the personal experiences of other villagers in the area. Some stakeholders might present in a more academic style than others – keep this in mind as you write. 

Your script can be conjecture – the scenarios are not real. You may include illustrations, power point slides and photos of other props you would give to your stakeholder to support their arguments. This is an opportunity to be creative!
