The wind speed of a particular site in South Australia is measured at a height of 50 m. The hourly wind data over a period of one year (or 8760 hours) is given in an Excel file (VVindData_Hourly.xlsx). The objective of this assignment is to conduct a feasibility study of building a wind farm and estimate the levelised cost of energy (LCOE) in 5/kWh. 
This is NOT a group project and each student will work independently. Each person is required to submit a single report that should include the following items. 
1. Plot the yearly wind speed profile of the site. Also plot the discrete wind histogram at a bin size of 1 m/s. What is the average wind speed, 2. Assume that the wind of the site can be characterised by Rayleigh statistics with the same average value as found in step 1. Plot the theoretical probability density function of wind with Rayleigh statistic and compare it with the corresponding results obtained through measured data. Comments on the results. 
3. Select a large size wind turbine (in the order of MW) from a manufacturer vrebsite. Using power curve of the turbine supplied by the manufacturer and the wind discrete histogram of step 1, determine the annual energy delivered by the turbine and the corresponding capacity factor using a spreadsheet program. Also estimate the annual energy delivered by the turbine as well as the capacity factor using Rayleigh statistics. Compare the result of the above two approaches and find the error in percentage. Note that you may need to adjust the wind speeds according to hub height of the turbine. 
4. Propose a feasible layout of wind turbines in an onshore wind farm consisting of at least 60 identical wind turbines (as selected in step 3). Estimate the annual energy delivered by the wind fame. Determine the total land area, including the buffer zone, .uired by the wind farm. 5. With suitable installation cost, operation & maintenance cost, land lease cost, and system losses, determine the levelised cost of energy (LCOE) in 5/kWh. Assume that the entire capital investment is taken from a financial institution as 20-year loan at 8% interest.
