Introduction

Sustainability has become a buzzword in the recent times. People, companies, governments are talking about sustainability and ways of achieving it in their lives or processes. But the world isstill lagging in achieving sustainability asthe greed to earn more in lesstime has overpowered the values and ethics.
Supply Chain Management professionals are now talking about sustainable supply chain management, lean supply chain, green supply chain which are all directed towards reduction of waste, not harming the environment, responsible consumption and production and respect towards life on land and water. Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) can be defined as strategic, transparent integration and achievement of company’s environmental, social, and economic goals by implementation of processes which are efficient and environment friendly (Mitra & Datta 2013).
According to Walmart, more than 90 % of its emissions related to its operations are from its supply chain (Dubey et al. 2017). Therefore, sustainability can be achieved only when it is implemented at the roots of an organisation. Nike and Adidas had faced lot of criticism for using suppliers that were dumping toxins into rivers in China. In 2011, Brazilian government charged Zara’s parent company for sub-standard conditions by a supplier AHA. These instances prove that sustainability is not only related to parent organisation, but it should be practiced throughout itssupply chain. In the recent years, a lot of multinational companies have promised to work with suppliers which stick to social and environmental standards (Villena & Gioia 2020). But the companies cannot keep track of second and third tier suppliers and this loophole leadsto unethical and non-sustainable supply chain. There are a lot of research articles relating to drivers of sustainability in chain, key categories of SSCM, role of customer in
sustainability of an organisation.

Methodology
The ten academic articles are chosen from the Elsevier, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar databases.
The results are limited from 2007 to 2020 and articles with full access have been considered.

Review:
The academic articles chosen have specified the importance of sustainability by quoting real industry cases which were accused of harming the environment, using sub-standard work standards, suppliers not abiding by the rules of the local governments etc. According to (Gong et al. 2009), SSCM is defined as “the management of material, information, and capital flows as well as cooperation among companies along the supply chain while taking goals from all three dimensions of sustainable development, i.e., economic, environmental and social, into account which are derived from customer and stakeholder requirements.”
