THT3111 is assessed over the semester reflecting the three-tiered structure which includes:

• Environmental context

• Cultural–Heritage context

• Natural-ecological and cultural-heritage management

Assessments are based on the intersection and overlap between Tourism and Hospitality and CulturalHeritage and are organised into three parts.

Part One (Assessment Task 1) reinforces the concept of nature-based consumption, environmental planning and management in the Tourism and Hospitality Sector. This is an individual report based on a natural attraction / national park. It requires a comparative analysis of stakeholder engagement, modes of interactivity and the management of contemporary natural-ecological challenges to ensure a sustainable destination / attraction.

Part Two has a cultural-heritage focus (Assessment Task 2) and consists of an individual presentation and forum participation. This project will require students to present their finding in a recorded PowerPoint presentation as well as uploading this recording, together with an executive summary, into the Forum for students’ discussions.

Part Three (Assessment Task 3) consists of a case study on natural-ecological and cultural-heritage management practices within the tourism sector. This individual assessment requires students to analyse and critique the experiences offered by a destination and its competitors; to be aware of the global challenges in maintaining cultural-heritage and environmental resilience in a contemporary real-world context; and to recommend improvements to stakeholder management and appropriate changes to existing sustainability strategies or alternatively, the introduction of new approaches to sustainable management.
