2. Excitation of a molecule with 266 nm light results in the following experimental observations: 
A femtosecond time-resolved emission (fs-TRE) experiment observed emission of light at 320 nm with a lifetime of 3 ± 0.1 ps and at 510 nm with an appearance time of about 3.2 ± 0.2 ps and had an emission lifetime of 38 ± 3 ps. 
Time resolved femtosecond and nanosecond transient absorption (fs-TA and ns-TA) experiments observed several different transient absorption bands with the following maximum intensity absorption positions in nirn with appearance times and/or lifetimes as indicated: species A has an absorption band at 280 nm and a lifetime of about 2.9 ± 0.2 ps, species B has an absorption band at about 400 nm with an appearance time of 3.1 ± 0.2 ps and a lifetime of about 36 ± 4 ps, species C has an absorption at 550 nm with a formation time of 39 ± 5 ps with a very long lifetime that was stable over the time region assessable for the experiments. 
(a) Draw a Jablonski diagram showing typical photophysical and photochemical processes that may be involved in the excitation of the above molecule and is consistent with the above experimental observations. Include the spectroscopic signatures of each species and their appearance and decay times in your answer. (25 marks) 
(b) Use the above information and briefly discuss the properties of the three species observed and likely assignments for them.
