Part 1 – Critical Essay

Critically discuss the role of the host cell cytoskeleton and motor proteins in the life cycle of a DNA virus and consider, with examples the importance of understanding this in therapeutic strategies.

The essay will require you to research evaluate and present some of the evidence supporting the argument you propose in response to the title provided. The background information you have now assimilated from viewing the Secrete Universe of the Cell and the introductory lectures to the cytoskeleton provide a platform for this task. You are now provided with a key review article as a starting point for your literature search (NCBI PubMed or similar) to identify primary (i.e. data bearing) papers which will provide the experimental design, and key results, needed to build your answer. You should use up to FOUR figures from the primary research papers to support your argument. These papers should be selected from the literature from a date after the provided article is set. All work should be described in your own words, including Figure legends – Turnitin will be enabled to allow you to check for any inadvertent plagiarism.

Once you have synthesized your argument, you should provide a Graphical Abstract – this is a diagram which summarizes your findings. This can be neatly hand drawn, or prepared using digital resources such as PowerPoint or Bio render.
