Introduction
UnimasWeb is a software company and its core business is to fine tune operating system software (OS) according to customer needs and requirements. Lately, UnimasWeb receives a contract to update their OS’s process scheduler according to the list of jobs supplied by UnimasWeb’s client. Table 1 below shows the sample of the job lists. UnimasWeb needs to evaluate the job lists supplied by the client and propose the best process scheduling algorithm that best suit the job lists. There are four process scheduling algorithms offered by UnimasWeb, namely (a) First-come, first-served (FCFS), (b) Shortest job next (SJN), (c) Shortest remaining time (SRT) and (d) Round robin (RR).
Your tasks are to:
(a) Prepare ALL the FOUR (4) algorithms to evaluate the following performance metrics, but not limited to:
(i) Turnaround time of the jobs;
(ii) Waiting time of the jobs; and
(iii) Number of interrupts incurred
(b) You can present your algorithm in pseudocodes OR flowcharts ONLY. Provide a clear explanation for each algorithm in your report as well.
Assumptions
(a) All the arrived jobs are at “Ready State” and ready to be processed by CPU.
(b) Only ONE (1) CPU available for processing the jobs.
(c) Each context switching incurs ONE CPU cycle.
(d) Memory is always sufficient to hold any jobs.
(e) Assume your Round Robin time quantum is 10.
