Purpose of the assignment

Throughout your studies and professional careers, you will be required to create different ways of profiling information in various formats. Poster Presentations are a common format of presenting information at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and commonly can be found in digital and non-digital formats in both scientific and business worlds. The process of creating an effective poster requires a student to focus on the key elements of importance and filter out the unnecessary information, utilizing the limited space to convey the best meaning.

Steps to success:

1) The first step is to select a company. Students are encouraged to pick early and notify me by email of your group members (or individual) and your business you have selected. There will be no duplicate companies so the first email in, gets that company. I will reply to indicate if you got your company or need to select again.

• The company must be from Accommodations, Food and Beverage, Transportation, or a Direct tourism product operator (no travel services, or tour operators that rely on other company products).

2) Research the company and one or two competitors to gather your information and identify the key elements. Make notes

3) Create your poster file and begin adding your content (see end of the assignment sheet for one way to do this)

4) EDIT EDIT EDIT. Ensure you have not made any errors or missed required citation for specific information

Poster MUST INCLUDE the following pieces of information:

• Introduction to the company being profiled This will include the company name, sector they operate in (within tourism), and a clear description of the product/service they offer (who are they and what do they provide).
• Likely Environmental Impacts There should be information on what are the likely impacts being created by the company or operation. This may be a “best guess”, but should be fairly understandable (What are their impacts)
• Environmental practices being applied This will outline what environmental practices or mitigation techniques are being utilized. Most companies are proud of this and will have an online presence indicating what they do to reduce their impacts. (What are they doing about impacts)
• What are others in the industry doing Compare this company to one or two others offering similar products/services. Are there things that others are doing that could be implemented as well
• Future suggestions This is a section for you to dream big. What COULD the company possibly do to further reduce their impacts. Get crazy, get creative, and think unconventionally. Tell me the reader/viewer some way that impacts could be reduced further if the impossible became possible. The biggest solutions often come from the biggest dreamers (hint… don’t just tell me what other companies are doing).
• Separate page, slide, or paper indicating your references for sources used.
