Highlights
Goal: To review the literature on topics relevant to this unit of study.
Please select a topic of your choice and write about your interests and the research you conducted around that topic.
You can choose any articles that are relevant to your chosen topic. Below are several articles that review interesting and/or important ideas in project finance and evaluation to get you started.
You are to summarise the contents of your selected articles in your review. Discuss your views and findings. What did you discover? What is perhaps missing and was not covered in the literature that you were keen on finding? The more complete and well documented your review of the material - the higher your grade will be.
Suggested structure
1. Introduction: What is the purpose of this review, what are the key findings? 2. Overview of your chosen topic
3. Overview of your literature review
4. Discussion
5. Summary of your findings and conclusions
6. References
Format: A written report submitted in electronic format through Canvas by the due date. It should contain Title page, contents, main body of report.
• Low marks: Fonts are uneven in the main text (different sizes and font types), some text looks to have been cut and pasted from elsewhere. Plots (if used) have no axis labels or are labeled incorrectly, are misplaced or out of order in the report. References to figure numbers in the text are incorrect and figures or plots have no explanatory captions or the captions are insufficient to understand the plots or figures. Figures are too small or otherwise unclear (blurry, distorted etc.) Little or no attention has been paid to what the plots are supposed to show. The text is too cramped on the page or the font size too small to read clearly. Section numbering is missing, incorrect or jumps from numbers to letters. Pictures or text run off the page or are otherwise cutoff. Referencing numbers are not correct and do not match the numbers in the bibliography. The bibliography uses different styles and entries are incomplete (I don't care what referencing style you use, but you must be consistent).
• Average marks: The work is tidy and at least 3/4 of the issues described for low marks are absent from the final report.
• High marks: All of the issues described for low marks are absent from the report. Even if all of these issues are addressed but the report still looks poorly put together or there are some finishing touches that are missing that detract from the professional feel of the report, you may not get full marks for this. This last point should encourage you to stand back from the report and ask yourself if
there is anything more you could do to make the final report sharper or more professional in its final presentation.
Grammar, spelling overall use of basic English skills
• Low marks: Overall poor and not at a university level, poor sentence structure, difficult to follow reasoning because of poor English, garbled arguments or incomplete sentences.
• Average marks: Basically competent, grammar is correct most of the time, good basic sentence structure, only occasional spelling mistakes.
• High marks: No errors in spelling or grammar, sentence structures are clear, concise and support the main ideas being put forward. The tone is appropriate for a formal report, there are no contractions (can’t, won’t etc.), no use of slang terms or other poor stylistic issues. Overall the quality of English is outstanding and at a level suitable for a report to be submitted in a professional workplace.
Structure and flow of the report:
• Low marks: Chapter/section headings not appropriate to the content of the chapters, incomplete set of chapters, chapters out of order with little or no thought as to how one chapter follows onto the next.
• Average marks: All of the expected chapter/section headings are in place, one chapter logically follows to the next, logically structured points within the chapters/sections presented in a sensible order.
• High marks: The flow of each chapter/section and paragraph moves smoothly from one point to the next and the logic of the presentation is clear throughout the report. The content of each chapter is extended beyond the basics to present a complete picture of the project. Overall the flow of ideas and the explanation of the ideas is outstanding and at the standard of a report that would be expected in a professional workplace.
