This document outlines the Sub-Tasks for the “Topics within the Voice to Parliament” social challenge. You can think of this document as the product idea (from a UX/UI perspective) and the business case (from the database perspective).

Case Study

• This section provides a summary of the Business Case for your Database. You should consult with the project level details (and the Dataset descriptions) for full details. This business case covers all Levels 1-3 and all Sub-tasks A, B & C:

• Personas are identified by a name and a picture. A Persona description contains multiple subelements, including (but not limited to) a list of Attributes, a Background, a list of Needs, a list of Goals, a list of Skills & Experience. Each list for each Persona can be of variable length. RMIT Classification: Trusted

• Students (that is the developers of the website) are identified by a student number. A student may be described by a name, along with other information.

• A Local Government Area (LGA) is a survey region of Australia that is identified by a code. An LGA has a name, and geographical properties including an area, and the latitude/longitude of the ‘geographic centre’ of the LGA. LGA survey regions may change from year-to-year, varying their geographic coverage. Additionally, LGAs may be added or removed from year-to-year. • An LGA lies within one State or Territory. Each State and Territory is identified by a single digit id and has a name and an abbreviation.

• Each Census collects information of a snapshot of Australia under various Datasets. The Census information is unique to a specific year. For this business case, 5 Datasets are considered. Although each Dataset is unique, the structure of all the Datasets is similar.

• Each Dataset collects information under various non-overlapping categories. Categories are unique to a Dataset and have a unique identifier. (Categories for a Dataset are described in the ‘_description’ files for each Dataset.) Categories, generally, are a count of the number of people that fall within the category. Some categories are ‘textual labels’, such as “indigenous status”. Other categories represent ranges of a numeric scale, such as “Age brackets”. Each Dataset subdivides the information collected under each category by survey regions, in this business case, subdividing by LGA.

• The combination of a LGA, a Census year, a Dataset, and a Category in the Dataset is unique.
