TASK PART 1 You are required to describe the industry in which you completed your placement, focus and reflect upon important or ‘critical’ incident experienced, and describe how you have grown/changed as a result of your workplace experience. PART 1- Reflective Critique (DONE) 1. Write approximately one page where you describe the industry in which you have chosen to complete your placement. Include a description of the organisation with whom you are placed, and your role within that organisation. PART 2 Focus and reflect upon specific important or ‘critical’ incident(s) that were encountered while you were in the workplace. (Number of incidents: one to three). These are incidents or ‘light bulb moments’ which occurred during (or as a result of) your work placement, and have impacted upon you in an important (critical) way. Essentially, a critical incident makes you ‘stop and think’ and question further; it has significance for you and/or has an impact on you. Most importantly, it’s personal – this is something you need to feel and experience for yourself. For example, assisting someone with a task or project would not be considered a critical incident. However, if as a result of this interaction/experience you change your personal opinion about something (e.g., career choice, management style, attitude to work), then this event could certainly have significance for you and be classed as a critical incident. Some questions/points to help guide you: • What was the context of the incident? • Describe what happened. • What made the incident ‘critical’ (significant) for you? • What were the key issues/themes within the critical incident? • How did you deal with the incident? • Why did you intervene/react as you did? • What were you trying to achieve? • What were your concerns at the time? • What were you thinking about as it was taking place? • What were your feelings during and after the incident? • What help/support and feedback were needed? Did you receive this? • What were the consequences of the incident (for self, clients, colleagues)? • What might you do differently next time something similar occurs? • How might this incident influence your future practice in the workplace? PART 3 In this section you should reflect upon how you have grown/changed as a result of your workplace experience. Further reflect upon your career plan and provide additional insights regarding job choices and career options. Some questions/points to help guide you: • What were your initial feelings, beliefs and assumptions prior to your work placement, and how have these changed? • What are your strengths? • What might you need to improve? • What have you learnt about the industry/organisation? o Does the industry/profession match your initial expectations? o Do you think you will continue working in this industry?
